The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are already casting their shadow. In the run-up to these games, several major sporting events are being organised in the city of light.

Last week, an Elite 16 beach volleyball tournament took place. The absolute world top took part. The tournament was played in the beautiful tennis stadium of Roland Garros, where for the occasion there was no gravel but sand.

Raïsa Schoon from Werkendam was one of the participants of this tournament with her partner Katja Stam. After losing the first group match, they managed to win all matches with 2-0. In the final, they met this year's European champion, the Latvian duo Tina Graudina and Anastasija Kravtsjenoka. The Dutch team managed to win the first set with 21-16. The second set was a lot more exciting. After a time-out at 20-20, Raïsa and Katja struck, with a great kill block from the latter as the winning point.

A fantastic gold medal for the Dutch duo, who continue their performance streak with this result, taking them to second place in the world rankings.
