Beach volleyball player Raïsa Schoon and her partner Katja Stam have had an excellent start to the Olympic Games in Paris. With two victories, they have now reached the quarter finals.
The first match was played against the team Paulikiene/Raupelyte from Lithuania. This team, which was defeated last year at the European Championship, was put aside in two straight sets with 21-19 and 21-17.
Two days later, the experienced Japanese ladies Akiko/Ishii were on the other side of the net. The Dutch ladies also managed to beat them with a resounding 2-0 (21-16 and 21-14). In the group, a second place, and with that the quarter finals, is now a fact. Next Friday, the Brazilian team Carol/Barbara awaits, and this match is for the first place in the group.
The victories were impressive, but the atmosphere in which the game was played was, if possible, even more impressive. The gigantic stadium, built especially for the Olympic Games beneath the iconic Eiffel Tower, was sold out twice, allowing more than thirteen thousand people to enjoy this fantastic sport.
